The cover art for Play by Francisco Lupini, titled 'The Empress Hotel', features a staircase with red steps and a decorative urn overflowing with red flowers and green leaves, with a background of cream and light beige.

Synopsis: For thirty years, Evelyn Price and Gabriel March have owned a small, glamorous, financially disastrous hotel in Provincetown.

Evelyn believes that money is the only reliable defense against humiliation. Gabriel believes humiliation is a reasonable price to pay for a beautiful life.

Now a developer wants to buy the hotel, offering them a chance to become wealthy for the first time in decades.

But the proposed sale threatens more than an old building. As past sacrifices, complicated relationships, and long-unspoken grievances come to the surface, the hotel's eccentric inhabitants must confront what they owe one another and whether the life they have created can survive the price being offered for it.

A sophisticated ensemble comedy about friendship, money, loyalty, and the impossible task of placing a monetary value on a life.
