Synopsis: On the morning of his fortieth birthday, Nico Ferrer has already made a decision. After the party his boyfriend Ben has spent six weeks planning, he is going to leave him.

The problem is that Ben loves him. Nico loves Ben, too. Their life together is good, and Nico has recently discovered what looks suspiciously like an engagement ring.

Over the course of a single day in New York, Nico navigates old lovers, inconvenient memories, small betrayals, and the increasingly elaborate explanations he offers himself for a decision he cannot quite justify. Meanwhile, Ben prepares a celebration of everything they have built together.

And the party, as it turns out, is very good.

Darkly comic and emotionally incisive, A Very Good Party is a novel about the peculiar cruelty of leaving someone you still love, and the uncomfortable possibility that even a happy relationship can come to an end.
